The Damned United (2009)

The Damned United sees Michael Sheen and screenwriter Peter Morgan together again for a factual football drama cataloguing Brian Clough’s short time as the Leeds manager and run-ins with his rival, Don Revie. The film, based on a book of the same name by David Peace, deals primarily with the relationship between three guys, Brian Clough, Don Revie and Peter Taylor, Clough’s right-hand man.

Bond 23

I was stoked to find out that Peter Morgan is writing the Bond 23 script. He’s written some great screenplays including that of Frost/Nixon (2008), The Queen (2006) and possibly my favourite, The Last King of Scotland (2006). For the director we’re looking at Sam Mendes – Revolutionary Road (2008), Jarhead (2005), Road to Perdition (2002) and American Beauty (1999). So two pretty big guns!

28 Months Later

I’m a big fan of 28 Days Later and was very plesantly suprised by the unecessary but entertaining sequel Weeks. 28 Months Later was in pre-production when the Fox Atomic label got shut down. Apparently though, the head and her films are likely moving to 20th Century Fox so hopefully we’ll indeed see this movie in a couple of years. Though I personally doubt Danny Boyle will have much to do with it, I would love to see him return.

Triangle (2009)

Triangle was written and directed by Christopher Smith, the chap responsible for both Creep (2004) and Severance (2006), in my opinion two very underrated horror movies. It’s nice to see that even though this is indeed another horror, it is different. More psychological. The best way to describe it is by saying it is a bloody, nautical version of Groundhog Day. Well, without the laughs.

Noir Bites – Detour (1945)

Here’s the second of my “Noir Bites” series, featuring the 1945 “poverty row” flick Detour.
