Bond 23

I was stoked to find out that Peter Morgan is writing the Bond 23 script. He’s written some great screenplays including that of Frost/Nixon (2008), The Queen (2006) and possibly my favourite, The Last King of Scotland (2006). For the director we’re looking at Sam Mendes – Revolutionary Road (2008), Jarhead (2005), Road to Perdition (2002) and American Beauty (1999). So two pretty big guns!

Jesper Christensen as Mr White

The only downer for me so far is that Jesper Christensen won’t be returning to reprise his role as Mr White for part three. Apparently he gets bumped off by Bond in Quantum but Marc Forster decided to cut that scene. I think this is a shame as he was a pretty scary character, not only did he put a cap in Le Chiffre but he vanished at the beginning of Quantum and didn’t even bother to get up and leave in the opera scene which made him pretty intriuguing all round. I would think that Forster cut his death for a reason, but since his “supposed” outburst at the Berlin Film Festival he probably wouldn’t be allowed to take part even if he wanted to. Despite of course the fact he explained how his words got blown all out of proportion (likely, I’d say). Apparently we may see his death on a future Quantum director’s cut DVD, who knows.

The Fleet

I got sent some info on this earlier, but rather than rehash what was written I’ll just do a bit of the old quotage for you:

“Liked Alan Partridge? And loved the Office? Then you better watch out for The Fleet: The Funny Side of Fleet Management.

The Fleet is an online sitcom about the fortunes of working at the small size logistics supplier ‘Lightfoot Logistics’, where fleet manager Pete is surrounded by his dysfunctional colleagues. Not so funny is Mr. Thompson, proud owner of a van with class leading headlight and not much else. Or van driver Ben, who couldn’t even find the way out of his own front door if it wasn’t for a Sat Nav. Meanwhile, salesman Jay sums up all that’s bad in sales: he’s inexperienced, under prepared and more than rude. Can Pete manage this odd assortment of characters all the while preparing for his much hyped ‘half’ marathon?”

The Fleet are to be ten online episodes brought to you by Fiat Professsional, the first one’s about 5 minutes so I expect they’re all around the same amount of time. You can visit the Lightfoot Logisitics website here. I rather enjoyed the first one, it’s familiar territory but quite witty for a viral campaign.

28 Months Later

I’m a big fan of 28 Days Later and was very plesantly suprised by the unecessary but entertaining sequel Weeks. 28 Months Later was in pre-production when the Fox Atomic label got shut down. Apparently though, the head and her films are likely moving to 20th Century Fox so hopefully we’ll indeed see this movie in a couple of years. Though I personally doubt Danny Boyle will have much to do with it, I would love to see him return as director.

Castle

Today I got word of a US drama coming to the UK. I don’t recall hearing the name Castle before but one of the leads is Nathan Fillion of Firefly and Desperate Housewives fame, which to me means it’s probably worth a watch!

I’m hopefully having some stuff sent over on the show, but for now here’s a link to the Castle homepage.

Castle trailer:

Castle should be hitting our screens in April

Triangle (2009)

When a group go sailing on a clear day they hit a freak electric storm resulting in a man (or woman, in this case) overboard. Boat upturned, they spot a large cruise vessel and as it nears, they board, hoping for a swift rescue. The ship turns out to be a 1930s-built cross between the Mary Celeste and The Overlook Hotel from The Shining (complete with blood on a mirror). By that I mean there’s absolutely no-one on board and there’s a creepy vintage atmosphere. For you gamers out there think Bioshock’s Rapture without all of the vicious denizens.

Like many horror films the characters are mostly throw-away, but Melissa George does a fairly good job as the deeply-traumatised Jess looking for a way off the ship which promptly becomes a bloodbath.

I probably haven’t sold the film in my opening few lines but I’d say it’s a much more original, more interesting horror movie than a good portion of today’s gory dross. It’s not the best film ever made, nor is it particularly high-octane, but it isn’t supposed to be. Rather it’s dreamy and disturbing.

Triangle was written and directed by Christopher Smith, the chap responsible for both Creep (2004) and Severance (2006), in my opinion two very underrated horror movies. It’s nice to see that even though this is indeed another horror, it is different. More psychological. The best way to describe it is by saying it is a bloody, nautical version of Groundhog Day. Well, without the laughs.
