Warhorses
It’s fair to say I’m counting down the day (yes, day!) until I finish work for Christmas (and today we’re just moving offices). I’m in need of a battery recharge or whatever you want to call it. I’m hoping I’ll be in one piece, it feels horribly like I’m coming down with something just in time for Christmas, guh.
I’ve been thinking lately about how cool it is that a lot of the oldies (or whatever you’d like to call them) are back on the silver screen kicking arse. We have Stallone - I’d vehemently defend Balboa
because I felt so good in the cinema and the latest Rambo was a riot and precisely what it should have been. Bruce Willis gave us another decent round of Die Hard and some other recent action roles (what he does best) as Hartigan in Sin City and Mr. Goodkat in Lucky Number Slevin. Then there’s Clint Eastwood (I visited his ranch once!) - back in both the Directors and actors chair in Gran Torini and Mickey Rourke in the Wrestler, which I can’t wait to see.
That’s not forgetting the likes of John Hurt and Christopher Lee who continue to dazzle on screen. I’m not sure if Lee is still acting, but he must have been getting on for 80 in his Lord of The Rings and Star Wars roles.
I love this. I love that people are sticking around on planet Earth and not retiring. Hell, it is probably because they’re film stars and they get looked after, but as someone who doesn’t much care for Britain’s celeb worshipping culture I still enjoy watching these old guys acting and hunting. Good on them!
Oh and Helen Mirren does still look pretty good in a bikini.
Here’s a little Kansas City Shuffle for you (Mr.Goodkat’s mantra in Lucky Number Slevin):
