It’s fair to say I’m counting down the day (yes, day!) until I finish work for Christmas (and today we’re just moving offices). I’m in need of a battery recharge or whatever you want to call it. I’m hoping I’ll be in one piece, it feels horribly like I’m coming down with something just in time for Christmas, guh.

I’ve been thinking lately about how cool it is that a lot of the oldies (or whatever you’d like to call them) are back on the silver screen kicking arse. We have Stallone – I’d vehemently defend Balboa
because I felt so good in the cinema and the latest Rambo was a riot and precisely what it should have been. Bruce Willis gave us another decent round of Die Hard and some other recent action roles (what he does best) as Hartigan in Sin City and Mr. Goodkat in Lucky Number Slevin. Then there’s Clint Eastwood (I visited his ranch once!) – back in both the Directors and actors chair in Gran Torini and Mickey Rourke in the Wrestler, which I can’t wait to see.

That’s not forgetting the likes of John Hurt and Christopher Lee who continue to dazzle on screen. I’m not sure if Lee is still acting, but he must have been getting on for 80 in his Lord of The Rings and Star Wars roles.

I love this. I love that people are sticking around on planet Earth and not retiring. Hell, it is probably because they’re film stars and they get looked after, but as someone who doesn’t much care for Britain’s celeb worshipping culture I still enjoy watching these old guys acting and hunting. Good on them!

Oh and Helen Mirren does still look pretty good in a bikini.

Here’s a little Kansas City Shuffle for you (Mr.Goodkat’s mantra in Lucky Number Slevin):

That’s right, I’m doing the Christmas thing. It’s actually not that early, we should all probably be thinking about buying gifts and that sort of thing. Another year, guh! For the festive season I’ve made Dwardus Prime a little more cheery. Expect more content shortly, including additions to the Vika Noir mythology.

You will also notice the bloody big RSS logo over there > so you can subscribe if you like. There’s another over at the Sandwich Man webcomic to subscribe to so you never miss a page.

I’ve watched a few good films lately, including There Will be Blood, Pure, and The Life and Death of Peter Sellers. I’ll add some new reviews in the coming weeks. I’ve been in more of a reading phase this past week or two. I’m mainly reading instructional/informative books like The Writer’s Journey by Christopher Vogler as recommended by Silja. It’s a great book if you’re interested in writing screenplays or novels or are just interested in the structure of story telling. I have also bought a book called How to Write and Sell Short Stories by Della Galton but as I’ve been focussing on my “big” story (hopefully my first novel, but let’s play it down for now, eh) I’ll read this at a later date.

New Sandwich Man page coming right up. Have a nice christmas song. Laters!

…well I don’t really do a lot for Halloween. In fact I don’t think I’ve ever been to a proper halloween party. Maybe when I was much much younger. I don’t know, usually I just close myself off from the world and watch horror films. It’s all a bit invented though, like Christmas. Its been taken out of context, even though I like ghouls and ghost stories and that sort of thing.

Hohum.

I’m thinking of doing a list of my top 10/20 favourite horror icons. This may or may not appear because I’m trying to concentrate on getting more of my story written right now as opposed to writing long blogs. I did write some tonight, but it’s difficult to get into it with so many other destractions. I’m also very aware that I haven’t been playing my electric violin, it’s dead cool and I really should. There just aren’t enough hours in the day to get stuck into all these creative persuits between work and sleep. Will work something out though (crossed fingers)!

Lordy that Russell Brand/Jonathan Ross thing’s gone on a bit. Basically I think there were some stupid decisions made but I rather like those two – at least they’re characters, overpaid characters maybe, but they have to be more entertaining than a lot of other souless chat hosts, even if you do hate them. Sach seems like a very nice man though, and I’m sure a 78 year old gent doesn’t want to hear those kinds of things left on his answer phone. Also, anyone else would’ve been sacked – if that had been a live show, but that it got past the BBC and then got shot down was crazy. They should never have aired it. These are all humans we’re talking about though, so bugger it. It’s been done to death. Let’s let it lie. Speaking of which, time for some kip…

..but before I go, the MSN website did an interesting little top 10 iconic gaming characters poll as voted by users. I was suprised to see Sonic in the number 1 slot followed by Mario and then Lara. Next was Pacman, Link (from Zelda), Donkey Kong, Pikachu, Crash, Solid Snake and finally Luigi. I’m certainly glad Lara and Snake were up there, Mario and Kong too. Not too bothered about the others, really.

Laters.

(Tried to post this last night but it wouldn’t have it)
