Being Human Episode 2

Yesterday’s episode revolved around George (Russel Tovey) meeting another werewolf who wants to teach him to control his monthly transformation. Initially George wants nothing to do with him. There are quite a few funny moments – not least when George follows the lead of his sex-crazed thrill junkie of a mentor to chat up a nurse. Despite the fact that Annie (Lenora Chrichlow) rarely leaves the flat, she also gets quite a bit of screen time (which is no bad thing as her story and character are interesting and she’s lovely to look at!). Mitchell (Aidan Turner), has a few more saucy run-ins with an increasingly disturbing ex-girlfriend-turned-vampire, Lauren (Annabel Scholey). The interesting thing about these two is that Mitchell “turned” her, so even though her blood thirst and depravity appals, he made her what she is, so she is able to manipulate him.

Being Human

Last year BBC Three ran a one-off pilot called Being Human that people liked so much they campaigned for a series. On Sunday night the first of a six-part season commissioned on the strength of the pilot’s popularity kicked off with a bang. Initially I was a bit miffed they’d replaced two out of three of the main characters (Guy Flanagan and Andrea Riseborough were great in the pilot) and I’d heard rumours it was also going to be less dark. Uh-oh I thought. Though judging by Sunday’s episode I needn’t have worried. Lenora Crichlow (Annie) and Aidan Turner (Mitchell) do a great job in their ghost and vampire characters as Russell Tovey reprises his role as the werewolf.

Welcome to 2009!

This is the first time this year I’ve felt human enough to attempt a blog so forgive me if the subject
matter seems a little weak. I think the (proper) holiday I’ve been threatening for four or so years beckons – a battery recharge is required and no mistake. I know, I know, 2009 has to be the year when I start to act and DO things. Enough of me though, there’s something a lot more important going down…
