So it’s already the end of another great series of Being Human and it certainly went out with a bang. The biggest suprise came in the last few seconds but I’ll omit the details for those who haven’t seen it just yet. Now that we’ve got another years wait until series 3 comes around (being written now, apparently) now’s a good time to check out the BBC site Being Human, the videos and blogs.

I’m dead (pun intended) pleased that Being Human is back on our screens. In my opinion it’s the best thing on TV, with great characters and a brilliant script. Here are two new clips to from the upcoming third episode to get your teeth into! For previous episodes check out BBC iPlayer.

Being Human stars Lenora Crichlow, Russell Tovey and Aidan Turner as three apparent twenty-something characters sharing a house in Bristol, trying to live a normal social life, despite being a ghost, a werewolf and a vampire respectively.

I’m very much looking forward to the next series of Being Human, and have been ever since the originals aired earlier this year. I read nothing but praise on the BBC board after each episode – seriously, nobody with even a quibble. Rightly so, too, it was one of the best bits of TV I’ve seen in a long time. Here’s hoping the next series will be just as good!

I’ve been sent an interesting press release and some vids, unfortunately I’m unable to attend the advanced screening of series two’s opening episode but hopefully I’ll be able to put some clips up at some point when they bring out a teaser. Keep reading for how to get to the screening and more info on what promises to be a very exciting second series!

Ticket giveaway to exclusive screening of episode one of the new series of Being Human

An exclusive screening of episode one of the new series of Being Human is being organised… and YOU could be there!

Aidan Turner who plays Mitchell (the vampire) has recorded a special video message about it for the Being Human blog which you can check out below.

The screening will take place at a London cinema on the evening of January 7th, 2010 and BBC Three are giving away free tickets to you guys, the fans, to claim on a first-come-first-served basis.

The tickets will be available from 10am on Thursday 10th December – just head to www.bbc.co.uk/tickets.

This will be, without doubt, the hottest Being Human event of the year. Those who manage to get their hands on a pair of tickets (yes you even get to bring a friend) will get to see episode one of the new series before it’s released on TV. And there might even be a few ’special guests’ to surprise you on the evening.

Being Human

Last year BBC Three ran a one-off pilot called Being Human that people liked so much they campaigned for a series. On Sunday night the first of a six-part season commissioned on the strength of the pilot’s popularity kicked off with a bang. Initially I was a bit miffed they’d replaced two out of three of the main characters (Guy Flanagan and Andrea Riseborough were great in the pilot) and I’d heard rumours it was also going to be less dark. Uh-oh I thought. Though judging by Sunday’s episode I needn’t have worried. Lenora Crichlow (Annie) and Aidan Turner (Mitchell) do a great job in their ghost and vampire characters as Russell Tovey reprises his role as the werewolf.

This episode plays out like the pilot with some other events and nods at future episodes. Plot wise we are given a lot in the first episode – the origin stories of both Mitchell and George, them working together as hospital orderlies and meeting Annie in their new flat. Without giving too much away we witness George’s “time of the month” as they refer to it, Mitchell’s vampirism – though he is trying to quit and some of Annie’s troubled past. A few bad guys and neutral characters pop up as well, all seem fairly well rounded and introduced.

All-in-all I’d say it’s a fantastic start to the intriguing and refreshing concept of three extraordinary twenty-something’s trying to lead normal lives. This first episode is pretty well polished – but it’s had time and practice from the pilot. It’s early days, I’m just hoping the writer doesn’t run out of steam and that the next five episodes live up to this first one.

This is the first time this year I’ve felt human enough to attempt a blog so forgive me if the subject
matter seems a little weak. I think the (proper) holiday I’ve been threatening for four or so years beckons – a battery recharge is required and no mistake. I know, I know, 2009 has to be the year when I start to act and DO things. Enough of me though, there’s something a lot more important going down:

Well, not especially, though it is cool. Listen up…

Some of you may have caught the one-off drama called Being Human last year, featuring a werewolf (Russel Tovey), ghost (Lenora Crichlow) and Vampire (Aidan Turner) who all happen to be flatmates. Apart from being a very enjoyable romp that given the subject matter could easily have been a pile of unholy cack, Being Human was a keeper. Fans petitioned long and hard and in doing so have achieved something really quite special and elusive – a full TV series. It’s been confirmed for quite a while now but I thought I’d mention it after seeing the very short promo ad on TV the other night. Check it out
on BBC3.

I’ve decided I really need to concentrate on writing rather than talking about writing. I have catalysts and the third of a book, along with what I like to call a beautiful mess (the “other book” that needs editing/shooting into space). New beginnings and my differing circumstances should afford me more time to get into the writing “zone” though, rather than just farting about watching DVDs and going to work like your normal upstanding citizens.
