First of all, please check out my friend’s submission video for The Best Job In The World. Share it, rate it and if possible, help her get the job! She’s a good friend and I know she’d do an excellent job.

Apologies for not making an update in almost a week, but a lot’s been going on. Well, nothing really very interesting if you write it all down, but I’ve been doing a fair bit of writing and rediscovered my love of reading (part of why this entertainment blog’s been a bit lax). Tentatively named “Love in the Time of Zombies” is taking a long time to write, or should I say, a long time to get round to writing. My head’s been all over the place and while I do incorporate a lot of what I feel into my stories (downers, etc) I do need to chillax for the creative process to flow sometimes. For some reason I’ve felt a bit calmer this week, despite still searching for elusive jobs. I think this is partly because I dug out my original novel, Jack Knife and (having left it alone for a while) I was able to look over it more objectively. I wrote a brief synopsis and I think I’m able to nail what it is actually about more efficiently than I was before, without getting hung up on details. I may even try to pitch it to agents again soon. Of course I’ll probably fall flat on my arse, but it’s worth a try, isn’t it?!

I’ve got a few good (hopefully) tv posts coming soon.

This is the first time this year I’ve felt human enough to attempt a blog so forgive me if the subject
matter seems a little weak. I think the (proper) holiday I’ve been threatening for four or so years beckons – a battery recharge is required and no mistake. I know, I know, 2009 has to be the year when I start to act and DO things. Enough of me though, there’s something a lot more important going down:

Well, not especially, though it is cool. Listen up…

Some of you may have caught the one-off drama called Being Human last year, featuring a werewolf (Russel Tovey), ghost (Lenora Crichlow) and Vampire (Aidan Turner) who all happen to be flatmates. Apart from being a very enjoyable romp that given the subject matter could easily have been a pile of unholy cack, Being Human was a keeper. Fans petitioned long and hard and in doing so have achieved something really quite special and elusive – a full TV series. It’s been confirmed for quite a while now but I thought I’d mention it after seeing the very short promo ad on TV the other night. Check it out
on BBC3.

I’ve decided I really need to concentrate on writing rather than talking about writing. I have catalysts and the third of a book, along with what I like to call a beautiful mess (the “other book” that needs editing/shooting into space). New beginnings and my differing circumstances should afford me more time to get into the writing “zone” though, rather than just farting about watching DVDs and going to work like your normal upstanding citizens.

Happy Belated (depending on how you look at it, I suppose) New Year! Here’s a nice vid of some robots fighting:

P.S. Someone please remind me I need to pay for the rest of my Glasto ticket by Feb 1st!

Well it’s nearly Christmas, which will be nice (hopefully). I’ve been working on getting a bunch more content up on Dwardus Prime, like the gallery pages and bits of Vika Noir.

I’ll probably do a couple of blogs before Christmas, but just in case I forget, have a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous start to 2009!

I haven't really done much writing in the last few days, and once again the weekend flew by. It's feeling a lot more like winter these days. The clocks went back an hour and confused me, and tonight I got warm and comfy and watched Spooks (ruthless lot!) and Dead Set. I hope to have more updates to the Sandwich Man comic shortly, which is already the favourite of one member (fluke?)! hopefully soon the comic will drive traffic here.

I mention in the title up at the top of the page that this blog features writing. Up until this point that has been a massive fib – all I’ve really done is talk about cinema and music. I am doing a fair bit of writing when I’m not 9-5ing though, honest!

Recently I’ve been writing short stories, aiming to have them published in magazines. Hopefully I’ll crack it and this’ll add a bit more weight to my writing CV. Maybe I’ll be able to put a story or two on the site then, but we shall have to see. So far I have two short stories, one is a fantasy/fiction piece concerning time travel and another which is a claustrophobic sci-fi tale. I have quite a few ideas which I hope will flourish into more short stories. I’d like to get to the stage where I have an army of these which I can use as ammunition whenever someone shows interest in my writing and asks to see some.

I’m really enjoying writing these. It helps me to focus on words and sentences, to keep everything tight, to (try to) tell a coherent story in a short space of time and to watch the word count. I’d advise anyone who likes writing and is looking to be published to give it a try. Also, on weekday mornings when I’m fresh (knackered & grumpy) I can edit a printed copy and check it for flow/spelling etc.

Whether I’ll continue with these one-a-week short stories remains to be seen, as I am starting to get into writing my new book, but I’ll update here with any developments. Until then, if you’re a writer – happy writing!
